About Whole Foods

It’s world renowned for its organic selections, and it’s an organic grocer that’s USDA-certified. Their products are free from preservatives, artificial flavors and colorings, and hydrogenated fats. That means that the prepared menu items available from the Whole Foods Deli all use these organic ingredients.

History

The start of Whole Foods Market in Austin wasn’t exactly promising, as it started out in 1978 with a total of $45,000 borrowed from family and friends. The founders were a 25-year-old college dropout and a 21-year-old, and they got evicted from their apartment when they stored their natural foods there. They lived in the store, but since there was no shower stall there, they had to use the attached water hose at the Hobart dishwasher.

About 3 years later, one of the worst floods in Austin history wiped out their inventory and damaged most of their equipment. The total damage amounted to $400,000 and they had no insurance. However, employees, customers, and neighbors volunteered their help, and the investors, creditors, and vendors relaxed their rules as well. It didn’t take a month for the store to reopen.

Whole Foods Market started expanding in 1984, with more locations in neighboring cities. By 2002, they had locations in Canada, and then expanded into the UK in 2004. Today, they have more than 500 locations spread out all over the world.

They have expanded their sales and services as well. The company has 365 brands under its umbrella (with Whole Foods Deli as one of them).

The company was bought out by Amazon in 2017, paying $13.7 billion for the whole thing. But it was a good deal for everyone involved, since revenues totaled $17 billion in 2021.

Terrific Prepared Foods at Whole Foods Deli

While you can shop for natural ingredients at the supermarket, you can also enjoy the prepared foods at Whole Foods Deli. These food items aren’t just good and healthy, but they’re delicious as well.

Mac and Cheese

Perhaps the most popular tasty treat here is the macaroni and cheese, which is regarded as a “killer” by most people who have tried it. Customers have a wide range of ingredients to pick from, including bleu cheese, bacon, charred tomatoes, and jalapeños. Despite the presence of the peppers, the mac and cheese isn’t hot at all—it’s just yummy.

Yucca Fries

In case you don’t know what a yucca is, it’s the root of the cassava plant. And this is what they use for these fries. The fries look like mozzarella sticks, but they actually taste like steak fries. They’re delicious, and you’ll definitely want to try them again next time.

Tofu Nuggets

Fans of organic foods know that tofu is always a common ingredient, though some might say that it’s pretty tasteless. But that’s not how it goes in Whole Foods Deli. Their vegan tofu nuggets are so tasty that they’ve managed to acquire even dedicated carnivores to count themselves as fans.

There are several different types of tofu nuggets here, and they’re seasoned with either sweet chili or za’atar.

Chicken Wings

Yes, they have chicken wings at Whole Foods. These are available in 3 different flavors, as you have sweet chili, Mandarin sweet and sour, and buffalo.

They do have mild chicken fingers here, along with spicier chicken treats. You can try the grilled Caesar chicken, BBQ chicken, and the tequila lime chicken (which won’t get you tipsy, don’t worry).
